The World Health Organization (WHO) has warned that additional hantavirus cases may emerge following an outbreak linked to a cruise ship, though officials say the situation is likely to remain contained.
Cruise Ship Outbreak Under Investigation
According to Beyond Time News, the outbreak was connected to the MV Hondius cruise ship, where multiple infections were confirmed and three passengers died during the voyage.
Health authorities believe the virus may have been contracted before passengers boarded in Argentina, but investigations are still ongoing.
WHO Says Situation Expected to Stay Limited
WHO Director-General Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said five confirmed and three suspected cases have been identified so far.
He noted that more cases could appear due to the virus’s incubation period of up to six weeks. However, WHO officials believe the outbreak can remain limited if proper health measures are maintained.

Global Monitoring and Response
Health agencies in several countries, including the UK, Germany, the Netherlands, Switzerland, and South Africa, are tracking or treating people linked to the ship.
According to Beyond Time News, contact tracing is underway as authorities work to determine how and where the infection started.
