Gaza Flotilla Activists Allege Harsh Treatment After Israeli Interception in International Waters

Istanbul New Airport — Activists arriving from a Gaza-bound aid flotilla have accused Israeli forces of violent treatment after being intercepted at sea, describing injuries, harsh detention conditions, and limited access to basic necessities.

According to Beyond Time News, the group arrived in Istanbul after being evacuated following their detention by Israeli authorities.

Flotilla Intercepted in International Waters

Activist Julien Cabral, a 57-year-old Belgian participant, said their small vessel was stopped by Israeli naval forces while sailing more than 500 kilometres from the Israeli coast.

He said around 10 Israeli personnel boarded the boat after disabling communications, and that multiple vessels in the flotilla were intercepted during the operation.

The group included activists from several countries, traveling aboard a humanitarian mission toward Gaza.

Allegations of Force and Injuries

Cabral claimed that Israeli forces used significant force during the boarding, including firing non-lethal rounds and physically assaulting passengers.

He said several participants sustained injuries, including head wounds and fractures, and that some were denied timely medical assistance.

He also alleged that medical supplies were confiscated and that requests for essential items such as water and hygiene products were delayed or limited.

Detention and Transfer Conditions

The activists said they were later transferred to detention facilities near Ashdod before being moved to southern Israel.

They described being restrained for long periods in tight handcuffs and transported in overcrowded vehicles under difficult conditions.

Cabral further alleged verbal abuse during processing at multiple stages of detention.

Turkish Evacuation Efforts

Turkish authorities reportedly evacuated hundreds of individuals connected to the flotilla through special flights, providing medical support and emergency assistance upon arrival.

Turkey officials also arranged transport and healthcare services for returning participants.

“We Will Continue” — Activists Vow Future Voyages

Despite their experience, several activists said they intend to join future flotilla missions aimed at delivering aid to Gaza.

Cabral stated that the group remains committed to continuing humanitarian efforts, despite the risks involved.
