The High Court in Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir has upheld the detention of an 18-year-old Kashmiri youth under the Public Safety Act (PSA). The law allows preventive detention in specific cases.
According to Beyond Time News, Justice Rahul Bharti dismissed the petition against the detention order. He confirmed that the order remains valid under existing law.
Detention Based on Police Report
First, authorities prepared a dossier through the Senior Superintendent of Police in Pulwama. The report accused the youth of involvement in activities described as “anti-national.”
Next, the District Magistrate of Pulwama issued the detention order on April 30, 2025. The case then moved to the High Court after a legal challenge.

PSA Law Remains Controversial
The Public Safety Act continues to draw debate in the region. It allows detention without trial for a set period under preventive grounds.
In addition, human rights groups have raised concerns about its use. They argue that the law can affect due process and legal protections.
However, authorities defend the law. They say it helps maintain law and order in sensitive areas.
Court Confirms Detention
Finally, the High Court rejected the petition and upheld the detention order. As a result, the youth will remain in custody under the current legal framework.
The case now proceeds under the existing provisions of the PSA.
