Karachi Heatwave Claims 12 Lives in 24 Hours, Rescue Officials Report

Karachi continues to suffer under an intense heatwave, with 12 more deaths reported within 24 hours due to heatstroke, rescue officials said. The total heat-related deaths in the city have reached 14 over the past two days.

According to Beyond Time News, victims were brought to hospitals in critical condition but could not survive.

Bodies Recovered Across City

Rescue teams recovered bodies from multiple areas, including Clifton, Liaquatabad, Surjani Town, Super Highway, Defence Phase 8, Baldia, Manghopir, and Gulshan-e-Hadeed.

Officials said some victims have been identified, including 50-year-old Dur e Muhammad and 55-year-old Abdul Wadood, while others remain unidentified. Bodies were shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for legal procedures, with some later handed over to families.

Hot Weather Continues in Karachi as Temperature Nears 40°C

Weather Conditions Remain Severe

The Pakistan Meteorological Department said Karachi remains hot and dry, though temperatures are slightly lower than the previous day.

Current temperatures are around 35°C, with highs expected between 37°C and 39°C. Humidity levels near 20% are worsening the conditions.

Monday was recorded as the hottest day of the year, reaching 44.1°C.

Heatwave Alert

Authorities have warned of another heatwave in Sindh from May 7, while Karachi is expected to face another spell of extreme heat from May 13. The Met Office has also ruled out rainfall in May.

Residents have been advised to avoid sun exposure during peak hours and stay hydrated as extreme conditions are expected to continue.
