Karachi is currently experiencing an intense heatwave, with the Pakistan Meteorological Department reporting temperatures around 40°C. However, due to high humidity levels, the “feels-like” temperature has surged to 46°C, making conditions far more uncomfortable for residents.
Officials explained that the high humidity is significantly amplifying the heat, which is increasing discomfort across the city. In addition, the Met Office noted that sea breezes are currently weak, which is further contributing to the persistent hot and humid weather.
Meanwhile, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued a heatwave alert for Karachi and has advised authorities to take all necessary measures to reduce its impact.
In response, K-Electric has assured that no scheduled loadshedding will be carried out during the heatwave period. The company said it is fully prepared to meet rising electricity demand as temperatures climb.

A K-Electric spokesperson, Imran Rana, stated that the utility is committed to ensuring a stable power supply. He added that field teams are on high alert to restore faults as quickly as possible. At the same time, he urged citizens to stay cautious, follow heatwave safety guidelines, and remain aware of changing conditions.
Furthermore, he emphasized that K-Electric is working closely with civic agencies to manage the situation effectively. According to the company, about 70% of Karachi is already exempt from loadshedding, and shutdowns have been suspended during the ongoing heatwave.
