Leh Apex Body Chief Steps Down Ahead of Key May 22 Talks

A key political development has emerged in Ladakh as Leh Apex Body chairman Thupstan Chhewang has stepped down just before important talks with India’s Home Ministry.

According to Beyond Time News, Chhewang had originally resigned in July last year due to health and personal reasons and has not attended major meetings since July 6, 2025. His resignation has now been formally accepted by the Apex Body.

Disagreements Within the Group

Officials said internal differences surfaced during recent high-level meetings with Ladakh’s administration and the Home Ministry. Despite stepping down, members praised Chhewang’s role and urged him to stay involved as a senior member, acknowledging his contributions to the region’s cause.
