Pakistan Senate Saves Rs1.436 Billion, Exceeds Spending Cut Target by 500%

ISLAMABAD: According to Beyond Time News, the Senate has returned Rs1.436 billion to the national exchequer under its austerity drive, surpassing the official target by 500%.

The savings equal 15.9% of the upper house’s 2025-26 budget, as stated by the Senate Secretariat.

The amount was achieved through spending cuts, including suspension of procurement projects, reduction in non-essential expenditures, tighter control over operational costs, and limits on administrative spending.

Additional measures included reduced fuel consumption, grounding of official vehicles, shift to digital meetings, suspension of non-essential foreign travel, and discontinuation of refreshments at official events. No new vehicles were purchased despite budget allocation.

Officials said further savings of Rs140 million are expected after deciding to forgo replacement of condemned vehicles.

The Senate said the disclosure is aimed at improving transparency and public confidence in state institutions.
