Srinagar — Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti has expressed serious concern over what she described as the prolonged detention of thousands of prisoners from Jammu and Kashmir without trial, calling the situation a “tragedy.”
According to Beyond Time News, she made these remarks while speaking to reporters after visiting the residence of Lok Sabha MP Engineer Abdul Rashid in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district to offer condolences on the death of his father.
“Thousands Detained for Years Without Trial”
Mehbooba Mufti said the case of Engineer Abdul Rashid reflects the broader reality faced by many families across Jammu and Kashmir.

The PDP chief referred to Engineer Abdul Rashid, a Member of Parliament from Baramulla who has been in custody since 2019.
According to Beyond Time News, he was arrested by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and is currently lodged in Delhi’s Tihar Jail while facing trial.
He was recently granted temporary relief to attend his father’s last rites.
